Re: Bunker Down or Bug Out?

I'll address your first post first... I saw the coming collapse from afar, maybe 15 years ago? I didn't know how it would go down, but I knew it would go down. I also knew I had time. We saved what we could - lived like paupers, sometimes. After 7 years, the housing market cratered - that would be 2...

Idumea

Idumea - The Sacred Harp. First heard this while watching the movie Cold Mountain. It was juxtaposed with the Battle of the Crater (which actually happened) and it really affected me... Idumea And am I born to die? To lay this body down. And must my trembling spirit fly Into a world unknown? A land ...

Don't have time to post, but will when I return.

Re: CRC Civilization Recovery Center

Maurice, What I have seen is that there are a couple basic models. When times are relatively good - excluding exceptional circumstances, such as the American Revolution - the concept of "rule by consent of the governed" seems to be the preferred model in the West. In the East, depending on...

Preparing for the apocalypse.

Member tahanson has been ramrodding the initiative to get this site back online, and I applaud his - and Maurice's - efforts. I wouldn't be here if they had not reached out to me. He made an interesting remark, re: doom and gloom posts. And I agree. If everyone posts doom and gloom, it's self-defeat...

Re: Knitting

Maurice and Doc, I once mentioned that I have working drawings/blueprints for an early American loom from the Smithsonian. I know I have them... somewhere. Doc wanted to obtain a copy of them, and I had no issues with having them reproduced - since they date from the 1980's, I don't think the Smiths...

Re: CRC Civilization Recovery Center

Maurice, Thanks for taking the time to reply - even though you should be working. Heh.. No worries, I have many fingers in little pies that constantly need attention, but blow them off to do something else... I'm trying to come up with a way to make this sound apolitical and diplomatic. Problem is, ...

Re: Talent

I agree with Doc. No-one can know everything, but everyone knows something. Just like trying to go it alone during a Failure of Civility, odds are, you'll fail. Tribe up. Kith and kin. The most useful, resourceful, the brightest and toughest people you can find, and set them to task. The leader of s...
