Re: Bunker Down or Bug Out?

Billy: Thanks for the book reference. They do seem to be out of stock, but I found a pdf with extracts here: http://www.afailureofcivility.com/uploads/AFOC_A_Look_Inside_130212.pdf Hans: I like your idea of "changing potential conflict situations to win-win-situations" , certainly as the o...

Re: Bunker Down or Bug Out?

Still grappling with the dilemma of pre- and post- apocalypse. I live in an location where there are 3 major cities within a 50 mile radius - easily 10 million people in that area, probably many more. My income is from a business which people travel to from the local area, it's developed organically...

Re: CRC Civilization Recovery Center

Hi Billy You obviously have a lot of first hand experience whereas I really only started thinking about apocalypse when I wrote my novel. Just to pick up on one of your points, the need for a hierarchy with a strong leader, I find it really interesting that while writing I came up with the idea of a...

Re: Knitting

If you find them I'd be interested in having a scan of them. I've certainly gained a huge respect for the textile industry from my forays into these local mills. Those machines are so amazing, and complex, reproducing them just from my photos would be a real challenge and good engineering drawings w...

Re: CRC Civilization Recovery Center

Hi Billy I'll just respond to a few of your points, as I should really be working now! However it's a very important subject. I respect your opinions, and your willingness to give them, even if they might invite disapproval. Unless we face facts as they are we can't start to come up with solutions. ...

Re: Knitting

Hi th The weaving side of silk is well represented by a museum in Macclesfield near me. http://www.silkmacclesfield.org.uk/museums/paradise-mill It's a good example of a technology that is all but lost, being preserved in a museum, but the practical side of the process is dying out as the looms are ...

Re: 20150823: Salt Water Energy Storage

Continuing with my North Africa theme from a previous post - the Atlas Mountains of Morocco/Algeria/Tunisia could qualify.

Re: CRC Civilization Recovery Center

Tom & Hans I'm impressed by the way this forum is provoking lots of ideas which are relevant not only to post-apocalyptic times but also to our current situation. My own view, which I've mentioned before, is that the apocalypse is already happening around us in (relatively) slow motion. Hans - I...

Re: CRC Civilization Recovery Center

Tom & Hans Respect for grappling with the difficult problem of displaced populations, which is impacting Europe right now. I'm thinking that living on water deals with the problem of lack of land, but North Africa, where many of the migrants are setting off from has plenty of land, it's just not...
