WindBelt Generators

WindBelt Generators were invented by Shawn Frayn in 2004. They consist of a suspended band of material which flutters in the wind. One or more magnets then oscillate between two pick-up coils, generating electricity through electromagnetic induction. They are lightweight, built of common materials, easily serviced and scalable.

In short, the kind of thing one can improvise from post-cataclysmic heaps of industrial garbage.

Practically speaking, output is likely to be rather low, but should pair well with cast-off LED lights, especially as augmented by associated circuitry. 5VDC arrays should be easy to manage, which can work to power many USB devices.

May help keep the lights on!
