20160101 Economic Model for 18th Century Knowledge
Posted: Fri Jan 01, 2016 5:26 pm
The working premise of this thread is that 18th century technology is a "sweet spot" which can still be understood and replicated by single individuals living in 2016.
Thus, it is (presumably) practical to envision a group of individuals around the world, who choose to master some aspect of 18th century technology as an interest, so that in case of massive failure of the fragile global economic system in place in 2016, the remnants of 18th century technology would be readily available for a restart.
An example is the ability to make a working vacuum tube radio receiver and transmitter, as described by Dr. Dartnell, and supported in detail by onetuberadio.
It is possible to envision an economy of 18th century practitioners to grow up around this forum, which is itself based upon Dr. Dartnell's book site.
Medium of exchange could be barter. After all, if the global economy collapses, money will be meaningless, so it would make sense to implement barter as a practical solution.
A class of exchange specialists would then arise, to handle the third party operations that traditional money eliminates.
The existing global amateur radio community would be natural allies in an effort along these lines.

The concept on offer here, is an opportunity to become an "author" on Dr. Dartnell's forum. There are plenty of "traditional" forums where you can comment to your heart's content, so please go there, if commenting on other people's threads is your idea of a good time.

If you want to see an "author" on this forum develop as a person, and grow towards whatever their potential might be, send your suggestions to them via private email. By a quirk, the software selected by Dr. Dartnell for this forum allows the "author" of any post to edit it. Thus, if you see an error or have a suggestion for improvement, you can send a note to the "author", and that person can edit the original post if they are persuaded by your presentation.
