Postby tahanson43206 » Fri Jan 29, 2016 2:50 pm

The purpose of this thread is to assemble the names of providers of 18th Century technology, available at the time of posting.

20160207 The first provider added to this thread is a supplier of products and information relating to kerosene (paraffin) heaters.

Re: 20160129 Marketing Venue: Kerosene heaters

Postby tahanson43206 » Fri Jan 29, 2016 3:00 pm

To include kerosene as an 18th Century technology is a bit of a stretch, because (according to Wikipedia) it was invented in the 19th Century.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerosene

However, it seems reasonable (to me) to suppose that a person living in the 18th century could have understood lamps and heaters designed to use kerosene.

On that basis, I would like to open this thread with a link to a provider of wicks and related items for kerosene heaters:

http://www.milesstair.com/

With the assistance of instructions provided by Mr. Stair on his web site, I have brought an Aladdin Blue Flame Heater back to life.

A wick trimming tool, and a recently manufactured wick are on order.

20160203 Kerosent follow up in 18th Century Providers

Postby tahanson43206 » Wed Feb 03, 2016 5:40 pm

Mr. Miles Stair sent a replacement wick for an Aladdin Blue Flame Heater, and a wick trimming tool.

The tool appears to be an original manufactured in England.

The wick appears to be well made, and I understand from correspondence with Mr. Stair, that the wick was manufactured recently, since he sold out of previous stock.
