I'd have agreed with you until fairly recently, but no longer am able to. I think the nature of money has changed, it's no longer just a neutral means of exchange.

When the 8 richest people in the world have more of it than the 50% poorest, there's something obscene going on, however much those 8 pretend to be philanthropists. Another website I occasionally participate in has had it's merchant account closed, because the bankers disagree with it's content. This has had the effect of cutting off it's funding and threatening its survival.
I don't disagree with you about human behaviour, but the current setup seems to reward the bad, and doesn't really do much to help people who are trying to do the right thing. Your antidotes - incarceration, starvation, disease - can, in the short term at least, be avoided by those with enough cash, and peer pressure can be manipulated by those who can pay to manipulate the media.

Yes, ultimately human behaviour needs to change, but the current system of rewards through money drives it in the wrong direction.
