The vacuum pump is an example of a technology that is essential for 2015 technology, and which would be essential for a technology recovery effort.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otto_von_Guericke

According the the Wikipedia article above, von Guericke invented a working model of a vacuum pump in 1654.

The vacuum pump is also an example of a technology that can be mastered by a single individual, working in a home shop.

Forum member "onetuberadio" recently posted an article about a way to use chemistry (crystals) to detect radio signals.

Ability to make a functional vacuum tube would be helpful to stop deterioration of knowledge at the early electronics stage.

A glass jar, such as one used to hold food in 2015, can serve as the case for a vacuum tube.

If anyone has an idea for how to make a cathode heater, a cathode, grid or plate, that could be assembled in a glass jar, please let me know by private email.

I'll be happy to extend this thread towards documenting how a triode could be assembled in a home workshop.

I actually cover that subject on my blog as well:

There are links to more information there, as well as a very interesting video showing the process. The elements of the tube are actually quite straightforward. The difficult part is achieving a sufficient vacuum.
