Potsdam philosoph Ruediger Zill about the reception and social function of Science Fiction in different countries during various epoches (german):
http://www.deutschlandfunk.de/science-f ... _id=344208In China before revolution and in the post-war America and east and west european states SF was very optimistic and expressed the hope for a better future.
In the socialist states this naive fiction lost its credibility.
In the west american and european countries the Cold War and the ecologic hazards create the genre of dystopia.
In China and USSR this genre was forbidden.
Today optimistic SF is in China extrem popular because of the fast development of the chinese economy.
