Tom Waits! And Johnny Cash

Tom Waits! And Johnny Cash

Boy, did you call that one right. Let me tell you--during my time in Afghanistan, Tom Waits suddenly sprung into my senses. A lot of the music I'd used to love just burned away in that wasteland. I found myself gravitating to Waits, and oddly, Johnny Cash. Yeah, man, I'm serious. I grew up in rural Oklahoma, and Cash's music was always around, but it didn't grip me then. I equated it with the places I wanted to grow up and leave. Over there, though, it suddenly became deeply important. And this song.

That song was also featured on the remake of Dawn of the Dead. Classic tune, but then again I've always been fond of Cash's music.

Thanks very much both for that. I'd not come across 'The Man Comes Around' before you mentioned it, and am now listening to it for the first time... Love it! I always found Cash's 'The Mercy Seat' to be deeply moving, as well, of course, 'I see a Darkness'
