The great physicist Richard Feynman considered the potential destruction of all scientific knowledge and what might be done about it. If you were allowed to securely transmit a single statement to whichever intelligent creatures emerged after the cataclysm, what would you send? What sentence holds the most information in the fewest words? ‘I believe,’ says Feynman, ‘it is the atomic hypothesis: that all things are made of atoms – little particles that move around in perpetual motion, attracting each other when they are a little distance apart, but repelling upon being squeezed into one another.’

What do you think? What single sentence would you consider the most important to try to communicate to the survivors in a post-apocalyptic world?
