OK, so here's an obvious question that occurred to me (well, two actually): 1) would we develop the means to travel to Svalbard before we needed to resort to a seed vault, and 2) once there, how the hell would we get in?!!

I suspect quite a few sailing ships would survive most types of civilisation fall seafood is a round year food supply even without GPS there are plenty of cheap fairly accurate watches if you can improvise some kind of battery and there are also lots of expensive wind-up watches that would I think compare well to John Harrison's first successes maybe a copy of longitude should be added to Lewis's book for quick survival, but maybe he shows you how in a later chapter I have only just finished agriculture.

One thing I wonder about Svalbard is how you would know it is worth making the journey. Has someone else already got there and taken everything?

How would you decide what to take? As much as possible so you could plant everything and see what grows best or would you leave some behind in case you don't survive the return journey and there are other parties on their way?

Is it naive to think you could just go overland to Tromso, and sail due north from there?

Another article about Aleppo's ICARDA seed bank, which collected seeds for arid environments. Sounds like they'll be moving either the Morocco or Lebanaon.

Here i post a link to an article in german language, provided by "Deutschlandfunk":

http://www.deutschlandfunk.de/der-saatg ... _id=332899

It desrcibes the situation and some details about the organisation of the project.
It asks important questions like:
- How will further generation after collapse get to know what it is and how to use the content?
- Who will be able to open the door?
- Who will be legitimated to take out seeds?

Atlas Obscura: From WWII to Syria, how seed vaults weather wars

A short history of seed banks that demonstrates that war is a great threat to them. A few topics in this article that would be interesting to learn more about.
