As of 2016/02/17, to the best of my knowledge, no one on Earth has succeeded in growing a sustainable wheat crop using hydroponic technology with natural solar lighting, let alone using hydroponic technology with artificial lighting, as would be required in or on any foreseeable location away from Earth.

The most recent report of an attempt that did not succeed appeared on the Internet news feeds in connection with a Google sponsored experiment.

An experiment that could help to move the ball forward would be to select a section of a healthy field of wheat to be illuminated by artificial light, while the adjacent field continues with natural lighting.

The value of this experiment to be to try to tackle a subset of the variables involved in growing wheat.

If the artificial lighting proves effective in meeting the needs of the wheat (or similar grain) plants, then study could resume with isolation of other factors that result in successful yields.
