Mars One

Mars One

Mars One, http://www.mars-one.com/, is a Dutch organisation with the aim of establishing a permanent human colony on Mars starting in 2024.

Mars is probably the one and only stepping stone between Earth and a habitable exoplanet so establishing a colony there is a wise move.

Indeed! And one of the best books exploring themes of human ingenuity for survival is 'The Martian' by Andy Weir -- an absolutely fabulous read...

Re: Mars One: Discussion extended in Interview

Dr. Dartnell was asked about Mars One during his one hour interview on The Space Show for August 15th.

The point of view I came away with is the (relative) difficulty of creating a civilization on Mars compared to doing so even on a devastated Earth.

Dr. Dartnell emphasized more than once how much better it would be to try to set up a civilization on a near-Earth exoplanet.

Picking up on this idea, I will introduce a new topic in this category.

Hopefully there will be readers who have the appropriate knowledge and skills to develop the idea further.
