A recovering civilization, let alone the existing one, would do well to study the work of W. Edwards Deming, who is credited with giving the Japanese a way of thinking about the manufacturing process that allowed them to out perform their American competitors, and to secure a lasting place on the global stage in the late 20th Century.

This link opens to an article on Mr. Deming by Steven Reive, who writes for "Wheelbase Media"

Amazon produced 5,966 results for the search string: w. edwards deming

Many of the references are for complete books about Dr. Deming, while the remainder of the listings probably make reference to Mr. Deming.

The Columbus Dispatch editors may have added a sidebar about "Deming's golden rules" since they are not included in the online citation.

Begin Quotation:
Deming's golden rules

W. Edward Deming's theory centered on 14 key principles for management for transforming business effectiveness in the auto industry.

1. Create constancy of purpose
2. Take the lead in adopting the new philosophy
3. Cease dependence on inspection to achieve quality
4. End the practice of awarding business on the basis of cheapest cost
5. Improve constantly
6. Institute training on the job
7. Institute leadership
8. Drive out fear
9. Break down barriers between departments
10. Eliminate slogans, exhortations and targets
11. Eliminate management by numbers, and management by objective. Substitute leadership.
12. Remove barriers to pride in workmanship
13. Institute education and self-improvement
14. Put everybody to work to accomplish the transformation
End Quotation.

The current small active membership in the-knowledge forum is in position to achieve a "transformation" of the forum.

The method is simple enough, but it is proving difficult to achieve:

Each active member contributes at least one post a week on a topic of personal interest.

Feedback is normally provided via private messaging , to avoid cluttering the public board with traffic that does not contribute to the value of the thread.

Over time, the contributor will have the opportunity to build a coherent body of work which is worth someone's time to read.

Over even more time, this forum will become a repository of valuable knowledge above and beyond the foundation provided by Dr. Dartnell's book.

May every member of The Knowledge forum grow financially, intellectually, socially and beyond.

Interesting, and certainly contributed to an historical, industrial revolution!

On a related note, one of John Michael Greer's seven modern technologies he proposes to be worth preserving is 'double entry book-keeping'.

As capital has been a player in all IRs to date of which I'm aware, certainly successful economic principles (e.g., Law of Supply and Demand), practices (a la Deming) and methods (e.g., DE Book-Keeping) will facilitate re-boot.
