This is the subreddit of the Living Universe Foundation. Our dream is to see humanity take life to the stars.
In NewMars.com (forum) there is a post which is following Mars around the Sun. New Years on Mars occurred on Earth day 2019/03/24. Mars has passed longitude 180 degrees in its stately progression. The calendar is now on Sol 383 or later.

If you are interested, the concept is for a participant to take responsibility for development of a virtual plot on Mars, one kilometer square on the surface, in a community called Sagan City (2018).
Participants will interact with each other to specialize in one or more of the knowledge areas which will be needed to sustain civilized life on Mars.

In addition, tahanson43206 is participating in a membership outreach campaign at NewMars forum. In an effort to build up a virtual business community focused upon Mars, messages are being send to newly registered members, inviting them to participate in the Hacienda topic.
A new branch of the My Hacienda topic is open, in addition to the previously reported Devon Island branch. This new branch considers an implementation of Sagan City (2018) on an island in Norway. This island is inhabited, and international arctic research stations are already encouraged by the government.
In the past week, a variety of topics have been under discussion as usual.
Discussion of a design for an Interplanetary Transport for the Earth/Mars circuit continues.
A two year voyage in a confined space such as the one proposed for this vessel will require careful planning for psychological health.
It was recently proposed that the ship design be implemented first as a test article in orbit around Earth, so that a "live" test could be carried out to see if 1060 people could handle life in a ship of the specified size for two years.
Subsequently, it was noted that a test can be conducted on Earth. A mockup of the proposed transport could be built, and it could be populated by people willing to see how far they could go (up to two years) confined to a physical volume as proposed for the Large Ship.
A useful output of such a study would be to measure the needs of the participants for physical supplies, since this would NOT be another attempt at a Biosphere experiment. The entire purpose of the exercise would be to determine if a group could put up with being so confined for so long.
The Russians have undertaken several experiments along these lines, but (so far) those experiments have been on a much smaller scale.
Other nations have run similar experiments with small groups of hardy persons.
The over-winter crews who occupy Antarctic research stations are comparable, but even those groups are far smaller than 1060, and they area they have available to move around is much larger than an American football field (when the out doors is taken into account).
The most recent excursion in the Large Ship topic area is the suggestion to build one of these ** just ** for chickens. Such a habitat would be useful for supply of eggs and chickens for orbiting habitats in LEO (as just one example).
